Ajinomoto Windsor, a leading manufacturer and marketer of frozen ethnic foods and appetizers, was founded in January 1996 as Windsor Foods when HM International (HMI), Tulsa, Oklahoma, purchased the frozen food companies formerly owned by the Keebler Company-Bernardi Italian Foods, Toluca, Illinois; The Original Chili Bowl, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Golden Tiger, Los Angeles, California.
In addition t...o the original Windsor Foods companies, in April 2000, the Company acquired a second pasta manufacturing facility in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania to serve the Northeast markets. In December 2004, Windsor acquired Specialty Brands, a diversified food company based in Ontario, California that manufactures Mexican entrees and appetizers with Jose Ole as its most notable brand. The acquired Specialty Brands plants, which originally numbered 6 facilities, maintain locations in Lampasas, Texas; Carthage, Missouri; and Piedmont, Missouri. Further growth resulted in the acquisition of another FDA and USDA manufacturing facility in June 2007 in Oakland, Mississippi. With ongoing expansion, Discovery Foods joined the Windsor Foods portfolio of acquisitions in 2011 with plants located in Hayward, California and Ft. Worth, Texas. Its well-known brands include Ling Ling and Tai Pei.
In November, 2014, Ajinomoto Co. Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, entered into an agreement through its subsidiary Ajinomoto, North America Inc., to acquire Windsor Foods. The acquisition added another frozen food plant located in Portland, Oregon, which manufactures Asian specialties. This transaction was complete and finalized on April 1, 2015, and Ajinomoto Windsor Inc., was officially born.
