Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for Manager for Construction Services. This position serves under the direction and supervision of the Director for Facilities Design and Construction unit of Facilities Planning and Management.
Responsibilities include the management and leadership for the Construction Services work group, which includes the support, development, mentoring, supervision, evaluation, and motivation of the construction management staff within this group. Position is also actively involved in providing project management services as a team leader. Coordinates work of, or with, design disciplines on projects for on-campus and off-campus Regent facilities. This group provides project and construction management services for maintenance and improvement projects (generally $150 thousand project values and below) utilizing T&M contractors, informal bidding and formal bidding processes as appropriate for the project within the University’s procurement system policies.
The successful candidate will possess good communication skills; strong analytical and organizational skills; be detail oriented; and have the ability to follow through on project issues to complete projects and ensure they meet project objectives in terms of quality, schedule and budget; knowledge of aesthetic issues, knowledge of construction techniques and general engineering principles; leadership experience of staff; knowledge of design practice and principles and development of contract documents; understanding of project accounting and budgeting processes; understanding of current state of the art in project management software (e.g., Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, CentricProject, etc.)
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 8 years.
Supplemental Required Education and Experience:
•Demonstrated experience providing direction and leadership to staff.
•Demonstrated experience with the construction of renovation, remodeling and/or improvement projects for commercial and/or institutional clients.
•Demonstrated experience using computer aided facilities/project management software such as Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, CentricProject, etc.
Preferred Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in a construction, engineering, or architecture related field.
•Additional years of construction supervisory, project management or construction administration experience on commercial and/or institutional projects.
•Demonstrated experience in working with staff, faculty and students on higher education and/or governmental projects.
•Experience with public sector project delivery and procurement policies and regulation.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software applications.
