The Director is responsible for developing, organizing, directing and continuously improving all phases of facilities planning, design, and construction for the university, including the campus master plan, design standards, program and project budgets, procurement processes, project design and delivery, and management of building and space records and data. The Director is responsible for creating an environment that values human resources by cultivating positive relations within and outside the university community.
The Director reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, and is responsible for providing leadership for all aspects of assigned programs; for complying with regulatory requirements pertaining to facilities; and for ensuring optimum efficiency and effectiveness in the use of the university’s resources. The Director is proactive in protecting and improving the campus environment. The Director meets with senior administrative officials, providing advice and assistance on issues relating to planning, design, and construction of facilities and related improvements.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major studies in architecture, engineering or a related field. A license as registered architect or professional engineer is required. The successful candidate will have held progressively responsible positions in facilities planning, acquisition, design, and construction organizations in a public sector environment. An advanced degree in architecture, engineering or related field; experience in facilities management in higher education; and knowledge of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the policies and procedures related to acquisition, design, and construction in the Commonwealth of Virginia are preferred qualifications.
